Hello,
My name is Tony Schmitz. I live in Memphis TN. I have been diagnosed with macular degeneration by an Opthamologist here. The reason I am writing is that I am only 38 years old. I am to say the least concerned.
I noticed this a few months ago. I thought perhaps it was time for glasses. I went to one of those "in store" optometrists. He said, that I needed glasses for astigmatism.(guess thats why they are "in store). After my complaining that I could not see certain entire characters on his test screen. He took a closer look at my left eye. He indicated that perhaps I had damaged the eye, by looking at the sun, or welding. I was uncomfortable with his diagnosis and finally went to the opthamologist. Thank goodness!
Anyway, do you have any positive news for someone in my situation? The deterioration is not too far advanced as yet.
Thank You,
Tony Schmitz

Hi, Tony:
I keep reading all the letters posted on the bulletin board every day. You get tons of info. regarding AMD. Although I don't have Md but I keep myself informed of some new drugs, therapy or any thing because my brother has this horrible disease. I am pasting the letter of some Jim, dated June 26, 2000, copied from the bulletin board, who says that his MD is gone with ICAPS which are vitamin and mineral capsules.
Also visit the site:
http://www.focusnewsletter.org/nutritio.htm
You would find plenty of info. regarding fresh vegetables, fruits which are very good for MD and also supplemental drugs.
Good luck.
Chandra
