Stem cells, which are essentially embryonic cells that can differentiate into any type of cell, have been found in rodent and human eyes (perhaps others, too).
Do you know of research considering replacement of damaged cone cells of the macula (fovea) with stem cells? It seems a worthwhile direction for research.
