I will be having surgery at the end of July to repair a macular hole. Concerned about lying face down for 2 weeks, which isn't bad enough but it is complicated by the fact that I have a colostomy with a pouch which makes it near impossible to lie on my stomach. Has anyone else faced this? Any tips on lying on stomach for 2 weeks recuperation would be appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Thomas,
You might be able to do without the colostomy bag for periods of time if you can schedule yourself properly. Your doctor can give you more direction on how to do this.
You can also sit with your head bowed in lieu of lying face down. The whole idea is to keep pressure off of the back of your eyeball, and this is a good alternative, except for the neck stiffness which might ensue.
I wore a temporary colostomy for six months, so I know what you are going through. It is a challenge, but you should be able to get through these two weeks if you keep reminding yourself of the lifetime of good sight ahead of you.
Best of luck to you.
