My uncle is looking for information on a new drug related treatment for his eye disease that he heard about on the radio. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to provide me with the name of his condition. The referral from his optometrist asking his g.p. for a opthamology consult referred to "optic nerve head congestion", "perimacular haemorrhage" and laser treatment to eliminate neovascular formation. Does he have macular degeneration?? What is the new treatment he is referring to?

There si plenty about the "wet" form of macular degeneration on this web site. Go to the HOME page. Click on the button for Macular Degeneration. There is a discussion of both wet and dry macular degeneration. For info on Photodynamic Therapy, you can click on the ARCHIVES button. Photodynamic Therapy is just one of many topics listed. Each topic contains many messages posted by AMDF website visitors on various topics. Happy reading! Best of luck to you. Your friend, Sally G.

This sounds like the exudative ("wet") form of MD, and the new treatment is photodynamic therapy. To read about it, please go to the library on the MD Support web site at:
http://www.mdsupport.org/library.html
You will also find a great deal of other information regarding MD on the main page, which is linked below.
Best wishes to your uncle,
