Does other MD people find themselves in the pitfalls of an emotional rollercoaster ride with the lapses and reoccurrance of the MD symptoms? Do you go for a length of time and nothing happens and you feel like maybe things are going to stall for a while and then you awaken with painful bright lights in your vision even with your eyes closed? IT seems to me that in all of various health problems I've witnessed personally and in others, the eyesight diseases are the most taxing emotionally! Thank goodness for others you know what you are going through. The yoke is not so burdensome when there are more than one bearing it.

Yes, being diagnosed with macular degeneration can be emotionallly draining and very frustrating. Many people also suffer from depression after hearing the news. But that is not unusual. Two issues of the AMDF Quarterly Newsletter had articles on "Depression and Macular Degeneration." Written by Arnold Wyse, M.D., they were the Summer 1999 and the Fall 1999 issues. You can read more about them or how to order them by clicking on the "NEWSLETTER" button on the Bulletin Board front page or from the AMDF web site's Home page. They make interesting reading. You are not alone feeling depressed and as though you are on an emotional roller-coaster. But we will find ways to treat macular degeneration some day. Ways to prevent it and a cure are also under investigation. We must all stay as positive as possible. Good luck to you. Sally G.
