About seven years ago, at the age of sixty, I became aware of a gray shadow between my
right eye and whatever I was looking at. I consulted my opthalmologist and he advised
me to see another doctor specializing in MD. That doctor confirmed my opthalmologist’s
opinion. He informed me that there was no cure and that I was going to lose the ability to
read with my right eye. He also told me of a second symptom of MD; a right angle grid
such as a calendar will be seen with wavy line intersections. I checked and it was true for
me.
I worked on becoming left eyed so that I could continue my career in aerospace
engineering. I also learned of a product called ICaps from Alcon Labs in Ft. Worth, TX.
A news broadcast by Paul Harvey mentioned that ICaps had been known to alleviate the
symptoms of MD. I began taking megadoses of the vitamin complex.
I retired at the age of sixty-two because of cataracts in both eyes and a cancer diagnoses,
as well as the MD. Immediately after retirement, five years ago, I had cataract surgery for
my right eye. The post op exam indicated 20-15 vision in that eye. I told my surgeon
about the MD and he examined my retina. He could find no trace of the MD. I looked at
my pocket calendar and saw clear and straight line intersections.
I stopped taking the ICaps and in two weeks began experiencing the symptoms of MD
again. I find that one capsule per day keeps my vision good. ICaps contain lots of beta
carotene and zinc. I have heard of some doctors using zinc therapy for MD. Raw spinach
(as in salads) is a good source of dietary zinc.
I don’t know if this will work for everyone but it did for me and I am very thankful. I
have now had cataract surgery for both eyes and have very good vision again. I also take
better care of my eyes (sunglasses, etc.).

How many ICaps did you take originally - you refer to "megadoses" but you are not specific?
Thanks.

Hi, Ed:
You can buy ICAPS from any pharmacy/drug store. These are multi vitamin and mineral capsules.

My husband has been diagnosed with 'wet' AMD. He has been taking Ocuvite Extra for a couple of years. His eye care specialist that treated his condition with laser told him to double his dosage to two these per day instead of one a day. The the problem is that I have since learned that this can increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers and persons that have quit smoking. Is this true? Ocuvite PreserVision has been recommended as an alternative. What do you think? I would appreciate any input on this. Thank you very much.
