My mother, my aunt, and my cousin have stargarts disease. Can anyone tell me if there are experimental surgeries or treatments available? Is there anyone even researching this disease? Any information would be appreciated.

Bridgette...my daughter has stargarts, she's 36 and contacted the disease when she was nine years old. I would also like to know if there's any information on this disease.

Dear Bridgette,
Please visit the Library on MD Support, linked below. You will find it under the MD Community Directory on the opening page.
Look for articles:
Types of Juvenile MD
Stargardt's Disease
Future Gene Therapy Possible For Inherited Patterns of MD.
Gene therapy seems to be the best prospect for the future, and already some genes for Stargardt's disease have been identified. Hopefully within a few years the gene delivery system will be in place, and a cure will be available for this condition.
At the present time there are no experimental surgaries or treatments available for this disease. Vitamins E,C, and Zinc are thought to be beneficial in reasonable quantities, and
you may read more about them and other supplements in the Library.
Hope this helps a bit, and good luck with your research.
Best wishes,
Judy Prevost, Co-Owner MDList
