I have heard a doctor in Florida can prescribe/make glasses. Does anyone know anyone who can do that in Washington DC area particularly in Laurel Maryland area. I am not talking about a telescope type. This institute/doctor puts two lenses together that works like a telescope. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check out:
www.maculens.com

When I asked for further details, maculens wrote back:
"There are only 9 doctors or clinics
in the US that are providers for Maculens. You can check out www.maculens.com and find the closest location to you.
If a patient has wet macular degeneration, we need to know that it has been stable for at least 3 months in order to have the exam. The prism lenses are aiming at any viable cells that may be left in the macular. By the end of the exam, the patient will know whether his/her vision has been improved.
The glasses are $2500.00 and unfortunately not covered by insurance. The exam in our office is $225 which includes fitting of glasses and any check ups following the fitting."

My dad has had wet AMD for around 4 years and has had the laser surgery in one eye to stop the progression. Unfortantely, the disease has progressed too far for any new research treatment, thus leaving him without much hope. I understand there are special glasses that can be made, so how can I find out about them. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky. As a son, I feel so helpless in not being able to help. I have called all the research centers but because of the advancement, they couldn't offer any assistance. Any, suggestions would be appreciated.

My mother has AMD in one eye, and suddenly it has appeared in the other eye. Is there anyone in New Zealand, or Australia we could talk to.
