I have Myopic MD, and am experiencing occult retinal bleeding, confirmed by angiogram. I'm looking for details on the TTT (transpupillary thermal therapy), that my retinal specialist has suggested I have done. Anyone had this or know about the TTT procedure or treatments?

my father underwent cataract (laser) surgery six months back. he was alright till may'2000. suddenly he could not read letters, news papers etcso we went to doctor after 1 month only. they took angiogram of eye and found out some internal growth is there and bleeding. the doctor suggested TTT and after six weeks period he was comparatively better and doctor suggested another angiogram again and TTT. now the doctor has advised to come after 6 weeks. he is comparatively better what he was 2 months back. since the retina of another eye is also poor, we are very much worried. we wanted to know about TTT and how far it is safe. is it due to AMD and how many TTT's can be performed. i will be very very grateful for your urgent response. i cannot express my feeling over PC. we are very very worried. thanking you in anticipataion

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with TTT. My father is 73, and has just has excellerated deterioration in the past two weeks. His doctor is recommending TTT very soon, and I'm trying to better understand this prodedure.

Also, he mentioned a doctor in Europe who's had very high (70%) success rates with TTT. If anyone can help, it will be greatly appreciated.

thx

Can you suggest other resources where I can find information on the success rate/risks of TTT. My doctor has advised TTT to retard Exudative AMD.

Thanks,
S. Flores

I am a 78 year old male with ARMD and have had TTT applied to both eyes. Seemingly it has stopped the seepage of blood. I will have a six month checkup in June to ascertain that such is still the case. The procedure is quite expensive and is not paid for by Medicare in Indiana though it is covered in eleven other States. I had thought that Medicare, being a federal program, would provide universal benefits and was very surprised to find that such is not the case. If Medicare has not established a national policy of payment for a given medical procedure, it is left up to the insurance provider who has contracted to administer the program for Medicare to establish what will be paid for by Medicare in their particular State. I consider this to be very discriminatory.
My retinologist practices in Indianapolis, IN.

My father has had Mac Deg for some years. He has recently experienced retinal bleeding and has lost most of his eyesight. Does TTT help get back any sight, or just stop any further loss?
