Can anyone provide me with information regarding intravenous infusions of selenium as treatment for macular degeneration. My brother has heard that a Dr. Jonathan Wright in Washington (I believe) provides this mode of treatment to slow the progression of the condition. Any assistance will be deeply appreciated.

I have never heard of selenium as a treatment for macular degeneration. Oh! If this is an antioxidant, yes, it is a good idea to take antioxidants. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Beta Carotene are all good (study done--using high doses: check with a doctor to see if this would be right for your doctor. antioxidants are bad if you are at high risk for lung cancer). Zeaxanthin (spelling?) and Lutein are also good--studies being done. Don't know if this intravenous treatment would be worth it at all, though. What kind of macular degeneration does he have???
BTW--I am NOT a doctor. Just a college student reviewing research on macular degeneration.
