My best friend has Juvenile M.D. And I still have some questions on this eye disease. First, what percentage, if he has kids, will it be passed on to his children? And second he says he will become completely blind at the age of 40. Is there type of treatment to give him a little bit longer before he goes completely blind?

1 in 10,000 people get this
to pass it on, I believe that both parents have to at least be carriers, which is unlikely

Hello all.
Stargardt's MD is passed through generations in an autosomal recessive manner, this means...
If both parent have Stargardt's, all their kids will have it.
If one parent has Stargardt's and the other has no association to it, none of their kids will have the condition but they all will be carriers for the condition.
If both parent are carriers for the disease, 25% of their kids will have the disease and 50% will be carriers.
Lastly, If one parent is a carrier and the other has no association to the condition, none of thier kids will have Stargardt's but 50% will be carriers.
