What is the difference in these two eye diseases. My
Mom has macular degeration and I have just discovered there
is a possiblility that I have diabetes. I have flashing lights
come into my visions regularly and wonder if this maybe a
warning sign. This happens during the day time when I least
expect it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Charlotte Smith

Unfortunately, it appears that macular degeneration often runs in families. That is, be inheritable. That means you are at risk for developing macular degeneration since your mother has it. You should go see your eye care professional as soon as possible and tell them about the "flashing lights" in your eyes. This may very well be an early indication that you are developing macular degeneration. I hope it is not but you should check it out. Good luck to you. Your friend, Mary Ellen Lewis

The flashing in your eyes may be a sympton of macular degeneration. Both my father and my Aunt have macular degeneration and both have told me that they see flashing lights in their eyes at times. Other postings on this web site's Bulletin Board have mentioned this phenomena. Look back the last two months and you should find a similar inquiry. What does your eye doctor say? Perhaps you should make an appointment with an ophthalmologist. Some of the best eye care centers in the country are listed under the Eye Care Centers button, which you can reach from the HOME page of this web site. Almost every state is listed. Try there. Best of luck to you. Victor
